BALE DOUBTFUL FOR CITY GAME

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Gareth Bale is a doubt for the league game with Manchester City on Saturday evening as his struggles to stay fit for an extended period continues. Gareth Bale has not played for Tottenham Hotspur since the recent loss to hosts Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League. Welshman Gareth Bale was off form as Spurs were stunned 1-0 by Brighton. Bale has not been able to recapture his old form on his return to Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the campaign. Gareth Bale made a sensational return to Spurs in September 2020 after he signed for them on loan from Real Madrid and he was expected to form a deadly front trio with Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min but this expectation has not been met.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho spoke about Gareth Bale and his injury status during his pre-match press conference on Friday for the Manchester City game this weekend. According to him, the final training session will determine if Gareth Bale features in the Spurs squad for the away game at the home of the Premier League leaders. Jose Mourinho said the last training session will decide if Bale is ready to play. The Welsh international was absent in midweek as Spurs crashed out of the FA Cup via a 5-4 extra time loss to hosts Everton at the fifth round stage. Everton are through to the quarterfinals as a result and they have been handed another tough draw, an home game with in-form Manchester City.

Apart from Gareth Bale, Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier is also a doubt for the game after he picked up a shin injury in the last league game, a 2-0 home win over struggling West Brom. Serge Aurier missed the Everton game in the FA Cup and new signing Matt Doherty could continue to deputise if he misses the Manchester City clash.
